Your Friendly Fucking Show Reminder: Little Tybee/Adron/Happy @ 529 Tomorrow Night

Little Tybee, Adron, Happy?
Wednesday October 7th
529 in East Atlanta Village
529 Flat Shoals Ave., Atlanta, 30316
9 PM//21+//$5

Join 4th Ward Heroes Wednesday October 7th @ 529 Flat Shoals Ave., East Atlanta Village for a special show with some truly amazing local musicians.

Little Tybee
Catch them while you can, they will be on tour through the end of the month. Hopefully, you can get a copy of "Building a Bomb" while you're there. It is fantastic. I have "Fallen Bird" playing right now.

Adron
If the recession has you feeling down or your lover just left you for the East Siberian Sea, you need to come by just to catch a glimpse of Atlanta's own beloved Adron. What can I say? She is a force of nature that will leave your soul soothed and your step a little lighter. We are all grateful to have her home and should probably bring her some presents or at least some colorful percussion instruments to add to what I have no doubt will be as equally fanciful as it is a tour de force of a show.

Happy?
What is Happy? You will have to come by to find out! This is their first show at 529, so let's give them each a hug and welcome them to 529.

All I can say is that if this show does not leave you feeling happy, nothing will my friend. Except maybe bourbon. Bourbon helps. Oooh, or rainbows. Rainbows work too. Oh, and Jess talking about baked goods. That works too.

Thanks Malissa sole for letting me repost that without permission as if I were taking credit for the whole thing!

10 Reasons Why I Love The Matt Kurz One!

Photo Courtesty of Christi Couch
A couple of years ago, Matt Kurz left the cold Northeast for the artist friendly Athens, GA. Since then, he's been slowly gaining a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts in town. After watching him steamroll an audience last Thursday at the Star Bar, I have a feeling he's going to have a lot more shows in this town soon...mark my words.

Here are 10 reasons why I love The Matt Kurz One...
1. He Plays Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums, and Sings all at the same time...and he does it better than anyone in your shitty 5 piece band.
2. Girls love him, and if you hang around him after a show you're immediately cooler by association.
3. If you're a fan of all the wonderful garage/punk/pop coming out of the south these days, you'll enjoy this.
4. Call it a gimmick if you want, but he's taking home all the cash at the end of the night...
5. He's an excellent slow dancer, and a thoughtful lover.
6. He doesn't drink, so if you blow him you'll get an extra drink ticket...yayyyy!
7. Does an unbelievable cover of Purple Rain...just yell for it.
8. Now lives in Athens instead of the cold, harsh northeast...so its easier to see him these days.
9. Nipples that will cut glass
10. The best Neil Diamond singing Metal impression I've ever heard!

Matt has a couple of shows this month in Athens...check his Myspace for details.

HOOFUCKINGRAY! Broken Social Scene Extend Tour...Fuck Shit Up In The Variety Playhouse 11/19

Fucking finally, after a long two years of not seeing one of my favorite bands, Broken Social Scene, they added a show 11/19 at the Variety Playhouse

They are touring as an 8 piece this time. Canada's favorite beards Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning will be joined by Andrew Whiteman from Apostle of Hustle and Charles Spearin from Do Make Say Think. Liz Frazier from Land of Talk will be token female for this tour, singing all of Leslie Feist, Emily Haines, and Amy Millan's parts. In addition, Land of Talk will be opening the show...sweet, they're fucking great (seriously, if you haven't heard their mini-LP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss then you're missing out)

who's with me?

The Super Black Crystal Death Vampire Wolf Fuck Wants You To Do My Dirty Work

So I want to open up this blog for some regular contributors...cause I'm fuckin' lazy. Anyone who wants to do a show review or talk about anything going on then please feel free to contact me. Submit a couple of ideas and we'll see where it goes. No, its not paid..no you don't get anything for free...unless, of course, I start getting things for free, at which point I'll gladly share. Why should you help me rather than start your own blog, which seriously takes 5 minutes...because mine will always have a better name than yours.

But seriously, let me know

Is It Too Early To Make New Years Eve Plans? Band Of Horses Announce TWO Atlanta Shows @ The Variety Playhouse

That's right kids, Band Of Horses return after last year's sold out multi day run at The EARL for more New Years Eve & New Years Eve Eve shows @ The Variety Playhouse on 12/30 and 12/31. If its anything like last year, you won't want to wait to get tickets...all of the shows sold out within minutes. They go on sale this wednesday through ticketcocksucker but if you're smart you'll just get them from the Variety Playhouse ticket club...seriously, anyone who still gets tickets for Variety Playhouse shows through ticketmaster is a fucking moron.

Hopefully NYE will be better for me than last year...I took an anti-anxiety pill, woke up in the middle of a cult ceremony with a bunch of farmers snorting blow off of my ass...not fun.

Go See Movies Other Than The Overrated Dark Knight...Altamont Now Screening This Wednesday 8/20 @ The EARL

...ok, before I get flamed here by a bunch of fanboys, I will say that The Dark Knight was a decent movie, just really really overrated...but that's not what this post is about.

The Atlanta Underground Film Festival is happening this week and there are a few movies that look interesting enough to check out. One of the most promising entries is a film called Altamont Now. It's playing at 10:30 pm this Wednesday night @ The EARL.

Since I have a hard time describing shit, I'll let the director, Joshua von Brown, speak for me...

"ALTAMONT NOW is a darkly comedic slice of the Indie Rock Apocalypse, a biting satire of how "alternative" youth culture borrows its rebellion from the past. Like a combo of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and "Wild in the Streets," it's the story of a mysteriously square journalist who happens upon a cult of indie rock revolutionaries living inside an abandoned nuclear missile silo with little idea of what they are "revolutionizing" against.

The Walkmen Own Your Fucking Face!

Awwwwllllrrriiiiiight, after a short hiatus (I was moving, busy, and didn't have internet at home, you unbearably impatient assholes) I feel the need to tell you that Atlanta's finest promoters OK Productions will be bringing The Walkmen to The EARL on 10/3. They've been here twice this year already to preview their new album You & Me and they rocked my ass so hard that my shit turned orange, perhaps I should have seen a doctor, but fuck it, I like to live on the edge.

In other news, The Walkmen have pre-released their album for $5 to benefit Sloan Kettering hospital...its a great cause and a great album...quit being a cheap asshole and buy the fucking thing.

Holy Fucking Shit!!! Wire @ The Variety Playhouse 10/12

Yayyyyyyy...one more time...YAYYYYYYY. 70s punk legends are going to be playing the Variety Playhouse on October 12, I will absolutely be attending this show. Their new album Object 47 is fucking awesome and in true Wire fashion, they will likely play all of it and a few choice classics...though probably no ex-lion tamer, oh well.

Get Yo Fey On! The Magnetic Fields Play The Woodruff Arts Center, Violin Players Slit Their Wrists

Oh boy, are you ready for a night of moping and barely audible music performed by one of the biggest pricks ever? I'm not, but I know many of you absolutely love The Magnetic Fields, and I'll admit, I kinda liked their last record for a few spins. Still, I think 69 Love Songs is one of the most overrated records of all time...

Catch Em'

10-17 Atlanta, GA - Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center

If Anyone Would Have Sex With Me, I'd Likely Put On This Song...Single Of The Day

Goddamn I am enjoying CSS's new album Donkey, and I'll be damned if this new single isn't catchy as fuck. Its not the electro CSS that we remember from the first album, this one is a bit raw, still sexy as fuck though.

The Fucking Cocksucker Story Time Theater, The Kid Stays In The Picture (Part 2)

Ok kids, get close. Uncle Bobby is going to continue his stories of shady business deals, beautiful women, motion picture magic, and how sometimes you gotta go with your instinct and tell everyone to fuck off just because you've got a hunch...and if you don't act on it...you might as well just give up...and boy does it feel sweet to be right. Who loves ya?

Comedians Of Comedy (Thank You, Fuck You, And R.I.P.)

Sad News as I've learned that the rotating group of smelly geeks in an RV that tell jokes is disbanding. Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, and Zach Galifinakis have decided to do one last show in San Diego at The Spreckles Theatre on Saturday, July 26 before going their separate ways (cue Journey).

Why is this often brilliant group disbanding? One can only speculate, here are my ideas:
A) Maria Bamford was sick of having the other guys try to do blow off of her, and no one wants to do blow off hairy fat men.
B) Brian Posehn is currently involved in a secret lawsuit. When you play his comedy album backwards, he secretly tells you that Jesus is the answer to everything, some kid put "Jesus" as every answer on his math test, and failed...He is now suing Brian, and will likely win
C) They felt it was simply time to move on.

I'm a bit bitter, I've seen Zach and Patton but never a full Comedians Of Comedy show. They never seem to be in the same town as me at the same time...and for that they can go fuck themselves...Sooooooooo Fuck You Patton, Fuck You Brian, Fuck You Zach, Fuck You Maria, Fuck You Henry Owings (For Fucks Sake, You Live Here, Couldn't You Get The Show Down Here Instead?) And Fuck You Whoever Else Was On The Tour...I hope you're all fucking happy for making me cry.

Bitch Betta Have My Money, So I Can Go Buy These FABULOUS NEW RELEASES!

Here's what you can go buy this week (Though you probably already downloaded it)

Go See Some Fuckin' Shows

Well, should you have a few hours/braincells/dollars to kill this week, here are some shows you should be attending. I won't be, because I'm moving. How The Fuck Did Of Montreal Get So Fucking Big???

So, I see that Of Montreal is going to be headlining at The Tabernacle on Saturday Nov, 8. Tickets are on sale today through Ticketraper.
Seriously, I remember getting their album while I was at college radio ...something something asleep in the poppies or whatever and it was a shitty E6/Beach Boys ripoff. I never thought they would get this huge, even with the catchy tunes, genitalia flaunting, and costume changes.

Of Montreal have a new album coming out Skeletal Lamping in October on Polyvinyl Records...oh fucking whooddly doo.

Wake Up And Smell The Song

Since I'm up much earlier than the rest of society...fuck, my friends in LA are probably just getting home from a night of doing blow in the bathroom at the troubadour, but I digress. I'll try and post a song each morning, provided I have time...

Here's one for all the wonderful rain that has graced the ATL this week.

Ok, But What Does Jesse Jackson Plan On Doing With Barack Obama's Nuts???

Ok, very rarely do I get involved in political discussions because, well, I have no fucking clue what's going on...seriously...if you think I'm an idiot now, just wait until you get me into a discussion about politics, it might as well be a discussion on calculus, cause I don't know that shit either.

anyways, I thought this was funny (Thanks Ryan Tingle)

Jesse Jackson VS Barack Obama

Also, lets please try to keep this a serious politics free zone...fuckups like this are certainly allowed

Eastern Bloc - Starting Friday July 11th!!!

Well, I'm hoping to make some other Blogger friends out here, so I wanted to point out that Kiss Atlanta (creators of the now defunct Decatur Social Club) now have a new weekly club night in Atlanta called Eastern Bloc. Seriously, everyone go, I'm like 90% sure you'll get laid...and check out the Kiss Atlanta Blog in the links section.

From The Kiss Atlanta Blog:
"Starting on Friday July 11th, KISSATLanta.com will launch its most ambitious nightlife project to date. Eastern Bloc will span three clubs on Glenwood Ave in the East Atlanta Village, featuring a rotating pool of over 30 local DJ’s playing rock, indie, 80’s, hip-hop, disco, funk, soul, deep house, electro, and club… all on one wristband.

We noticed how divided everyone was when it came to going out. Up until now, you had to make a decision of where you wanted to go and what style of music you felt like hearing. If it sucked or you changed your mind, you had to get in the car and drive somewhere else, park, pay another cover, and hope things worked out. Further more, people were pretty much segregated based on what they listened to.

Eastern Bloc is being created to try to break down those barriers and to create a more unified scene. No matter what you like… there’s a club just for you. If you decide you want to try something new, all you have to do is walk next door and the entire experience changes. Further more, rather than following the formula of having a set group of resident DJ’s, Eastern Bloc will regularly be rotating through DJ’s so that your experience changes week to week and room to room with.

Here’s the opening configuration for Eastern Bloc (we’ll be announcing the actual talent the week of the event):

The Graveyard Tavern - Electro, Bmore, House, Dubstep, New Wave

Cenci - 2 Floors of Hip-Hop, Disco, Funk, and Soul

The Glenwood - Rock, Indie, Brit-Pop, Mod, and Soul + Outdoor Patio

So, we look forward to seeing you all July 11th. Just find your way to Glenwood Ave in East Atlanta and look for the Bodega Nights truck and get your wristband there for access to the Eastern Bloc."

Ok Bitches, Mini Mix #1

Ok, so there's a few people who constantly bug me for mixes, but my CD burner has been running slow if not at all. Soooooolution, I'm going to upload 4-6 song mini mixes to this site, you can take the ones you like, and burn them your own damn self! I love you.

This one is simple, i just took 5 songs that I've been enjoying lately, I think they are all from this year, and I blended in the ends to make it sound all DJ like...yes, that's why its all ONE song.

You love it. (links to mediafire)

1. Dr. Dog-The Breeze (From Fate)
2. The Dodos-Red and Purple (From Visiter)
3. Sloan-Black Champagne (From Parallel Play)
4. Deerhunter-Nothing Ever Happened (From Microcastle)
5. No Age-Teen Creeps (From Nouns)

You probably heard these songs somewhere else, like I said, I'm not that original.

You Bet Your Sweet Ass It Does! The Kid Stays In The Picture, Part 1

Lately I've been obsessed with the audiobook version of Robert Evans' The Kid Stays In The Picture. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Evans' work, he was the studio head of Paramount Pictures during the company's glory years. Evans helped the studio produce The Godfather, Harold & Maude, Chinatown, Love Story, The Odd Couple, Rosemary's Baby, Marathon Man, The Getaway...I'm probably forgetting a few big ones too. In addition to his brilliant work in film, he did an amazing job of doing cocaine off of models and actresses. Robert Evans, I salute you!

Each week, or when I feel like it, I'll post one of the six discs of the audiobook.

Here's part one, enjoy...PM me for the password if you're a lameass that forgot it already.

Seriously, this time I mean it people.

Hey everyone, after everyone's begging and pleading, I have finally started a blog. Ok, I'm lying, Its not my first blog, I've just never made it past the first post. This is different, I actually feel compelled to do this and keep up with it. I hope to update this with record downloads, reviews (live, shows, movies, dvds, people I sleep with, heroin bought at 97 estoria, etc...)

A few things you should know
-I'm an awful writer, me grammar and speling not be perfect. If this bothers you, sorry.
